How to Get a Signed Copy Dedicated to Someone
Many people have emailed me asking if there was a way to get a signed copy of Uptown: Portrait of a Chicago Neighborhood in the Mid-1970s. Before today, it was difficult. The business I run is not a retail business. We just weren’t set up to handle a high volume of small sales. However, we found a way. Under the menu item called “Buy the Book,” you’ll find a page called “Get a Signed Copy.”
Priced Like Amazon or Barnes & Noble, But Signed
I’m selling them for roughly the same price as Amazon and Barnes & Noble, but will be happy to inscribe and sign them for you. The books weigh 4.2 pounds (softcover) and 4.8 pounds (hardcover) so USPS media mail is definitely going to be the most cost effective way to get it to you. The books will ship from Houston, Texas and generally take 2-9 days to get to their destinations depending on distance. Books have been arriving in the upper Midwest (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, etc.) in around 4-5 days. Hawaii, that’s another story.
Use Your Credit Card or PayPal Account
In the shopping cart on the right hand side of the page, select which version of the book you want (hard or softbound), then type in how you would like it inscribed. When you click the “Buy Now” button, you will be taken to PayPal’s site where you can pay via credit card or your PayPal account. No personal data or credit card info is stored on this site. We see nothing an email with your address and how you would like the book inscribed. I plan to sign each day’s orders during the lunch hour so we can get them in the afternoon mail.
Of course, Amazon and Barnes & Noble will still carry the book. But if you want a signed and inscribed copy, now you can get it through this web site.
