Young birds are programmed from birth to try their wings. This one’s feathers have just started growing, and the chick is already flexing its young wings, much like a young human boy would flex its muscles. Birds often use their wings in displays of dominance to make themselves look bigger. It’s an instinct that starts in the nest. Photo taken with a Nikon D4S, the Nikkor 800mm f5.6 lens and a 2x teleconverter from about 50 meters.
