In the mid-1970s, I photographed this young man several times in different locations around Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood. He was enrolled in a vocational school to learn a trade while he was living in the Wilson Club Men’s Hotel which advertised rooms for 75 cents per night at the time. The inked tattoos on his arm say “Tiger,” “Butch” and “Mom and Dad.” Notice how thin his waist is. His belt was doubled over. He was hungry for more than a job.
