I found this young African-American couple watching their friends play basketball on a court in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood. He was very proud of her and she of him. Fashion historians: note the bell-bottom jeans which were briefly popular during the late Sixties and early Seventies. A reader wrote to tell me that this basketball court is at the Stewart School at 4525 Kenmore. According to DNAinfo Chicago, the Chicago Board of Education voted to close this school in May, 2013, after lengthy protests by neighborhood residents. In June, DNAinfo Chicago wrote another poignant story about the last day at the school.
