The Afro style of haircut was huge in the late sixties and early seventies. Men competed with each other to see how big they could make them grow. There’s a practical limit, however. People with an Afro had to carry a special comb in their back pockets with long teeth. It was known as a pick. The hair was usually styled with some sort of gel and the owners of Afro’s or Fro’s, for short, were constantly grooming them. The slightest wind or touch could destroy the symmetry of the ball.
