This image shows the man in the last shot being rushed into a waiting ambulance by EMTs. His face looked as white as the linens, but at least a sheet wasn’t over his head. Back in the mid-1970s, when I shot these images in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood, ambulances seemed almost as common at the Wilson Club Hotel for men as the poor people the hotel served.
