I caught this American White Ibis flying over the Audubon Society’s Smith Oaks Rookery in High Island, Texas. The deep red color of the bird’s bill signifies that it is in its mating season. At other times of year, the ibis’ bill is pinkish.

Photo taken with the Nikon D4S and the Nikkor 200-400mm with a 1.4x teleconverter. Effective aperture was 6.3, 1/8000th of a second, ISO 640.
