Compared to the rampant commercialism in today’s ballparks, Wrigley Field was remarkably commercial free back in the mid-1970s. However, a giant billboard on top of an apartment building just beyond the right field wall could be clearly seen from most parts of the stadium. On this day, it advertised “Torco, the Quiet Giant. Oil supplier to industry.”
On August 24, 1975, the Cubs eventually lost to the Astros, 8-4, but as usual, everyone enjoyed the game. Wrigley Field is a remarkably wonderful place to watch a ballgame.
