T-shirts, then as now, were a staple of fashion for the young. They’re inexpensive and expressive. This shirt says “USA.” The shot was taken in 1976 just a month before America’s bicentennial. Bicentennial fever was sweeping America. Vendors like this one cashed in on the craze. A popular series of television commercials sponsored by Shell Oil Company and CBS featured “Bicentennial Minutes.” They were brief history lessons about events leading up to the Declaration of Independence. Each started out with “Two hundred years ago today…”
