On October 22, 1975, I decided to see what Uptown looked like at dawn. I got up early and timed my arrival at the Wilson El Stop with the sunrise. I had a 24mm lens on my camera and captured this shot of Wilson looking east. It shows the Bissets Department Store on the right, at the corner of Wilson and Broadway. This proud old establishment had closed its doors sometime earlier and was awaiting demolition. It would be torn down two months later. Pictures elsewhere in this portfolio show the demolition crew at work.
The man who ran Bissets during the 60s was a former president of the Uptown Chamber and hung out with Rev. Preston Bradley and Clement Stone, both of whom were based in Uptown at one time.
