The Audubon Society’s Smith Oaks Rookery in High Island, Texas, is a study in contrasts. The rookery attracts jet black cormorants and bright white egrets. Hence, I call this shot “Black and White.” I was done shooting for the day and carrying my camera gear back to the vehicle when I stopped to rest. I took one last handheld shot with the Nikon D4 and Nikkor 200-400 f4 zoom with 1.4x teleconverter.
