I took this shot of a boarded up store front at 4824 Broadway just north of Lawrence and the Uptown Theater in 1974. If I had the plywood concession in Uptown during the middle part of the 1970s, I would be a much richer man today. Scenes like these were common. The country was in a recession following the OPEC oil embargo in 1973. Note also: this was the era of seven digit phone numbers.
