Sometimes nature and architecture play right into a bird photographer’s hands. I was locking the front door of my office tonight when I found this cedar waxwing on the foot mat. He had evidently flown into the window and stunned himself.
One of my employees placed him on a branch while he regained consciousness. I got about twelve shots of him with the 70-210mm Nikkor at 200mm and f7.1. I also used a fill flash set at minus 2 stops because he was in shade and backlit.
After the twelfth shot, he flitted away to a more distant branch and started munching on leaves. A happy ending for a colorful little bird!
