I call this photo “Christmas Kid.” This close up of one of the brothers in the Hungarian family that lived at 1248 Wilson in Chicago was taken on Christmas day of 1974. There were at least ten kids in this family and I didn’t see any toys laying around. My impression was that while most families were exchanging gifts, this family could not afford to. This boy was in the middle of ten siblings age-wise. They took out their frustration by practicing karate and judo moves on each other the whole time I was photographing.
