Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood during the mid-1970s was in a state of serious decay. Many apartment buildings were boarded up, burned, or abandoned. The state of the streets and sidewalks did not inspire investors to redevelop the neighborhood at this point in time – despite bargain basement prices. This shot was taken about a half block east of the Sheridan Plaza Hotel, looking toward the corner of Sheridan and Wilson.
