One day, while riding the ‘L’ back to Rogers Park after a long day of photographing in Uptown, I saw this man sleeping. He looked as though he had just gotten off a long shift. I sympathized with him. The monotony of the ride, the swaying of the train, and the clickety-clack of the rails often put me to sleep also. This shot was one of my first attempts at an intentional multiple exposure to try to capture that feeling of being half asleep during a ride on the CTA.

When I depended on the CTA for transportation, I yearned for the freedom of a car. But when I started earning enough money to afford a car, I yearned for the freedom of the CTA.
