In late December of 1975, I photographed this man taking a break. He was part of the demolition crew tearing down the old Bisset’s Department Store on the corner of Wilson and Broadway. You can see the wreckage of the building behind his tractor. This was bone jarring work on such a cold day. He and his friends had a large fire burning in a nearby trash barrel to help them stay warm. Bissets was a symbol of Uptown’s glory days; many people were sad to see this building come down.
