This woman owned and operated the Guatemala Restaurant on Wilson in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood in early 1974. I was photographing their kids who were playing outside. They invited me in to document how they made empanadas. I shot a whole role of film in their kitchen as everyone joined in…even the kids. Now that was a family restaurant! I call this lady the “Empanada Queen” because forty years later, I have yet to taste better empanadas. This woman owned and operated the restaurant for 34 years.
