In the mid-1970s when I took this shot, the Wilson Club Hotel for Men in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood, catered to the poorest of the poor. They advertised rooms for 75 cents per night. Many of the men were grappling with medical issues, some related to drugs, tobacco or alcohol. As a result, EMTs visited the hotel regularly. I am not sure what this individual’s problem was. He appeared to be breathing, but unconscious when the EMTs rushed him to the waiting ambulance.
