I encountered this 75 year old man at 1000 West Argyle in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood in February of 1976. He told me that he had fought with the French Foreign Legion in North Africa. He was from Alsace-Lorraine. The French Foreign Legion is unique in that it is made up of foreigners willing to fight for France.
