At sunset, I took this shot of a great egret banking toward its nest. These majestic creatures have such a wide wingspan to body weight ratio that they can seemingly float in the air as they decelerate. They have more hang time than Michael Jordan. I loved the way the setting sun reflected off the top of his wings. Taken at the Audubon Society’s Smith Oaks Rookery in High Island, Texas, with a Nikon D4S and 800mm f5.6 Nikkor.
