This shot would have been difficult or impossible to take before the Nikon D5. The camera has incredibly fast focusing and shooting capabilities. It locks onto a subject the instant the subject is in frame. It then measures the rate of change in focus, predicts where the bird will be for the next shot, and adjusts the focus before the bird gets there! The ability to look into the birds eyes creates a personal feeling. It’s almost as though you’re getting to know the bird as an individual instead as a representative of its species.
