Long before Walmart, this little grocery store at 1319 West Wilson in Uptown had a crew of volunteer greeters. Actually, the kids look more like gatekeepers than greeters. Kids this age always seemed to hang out near grocery stores. That’s where the candy was. I took this shot in the summer of 1974. Here’s what it looks like today in Google Maps Street view. My thanks to a reader who operates the store next door to this for identifying the exact location!
