I found these guys and dolls and dog in front of Buena Park Grocery in 1974. The store was tucked under the El just north of Buena Circle Park. It sold a large amount of snacks to neighborhood kids. On this summer day, the kids had marched there as a group with several dolls and the older girl’s dog. They were a fun-loving bunch that seemed to stick together. I photographed them on several different occasions. Note that half the group is barefoot.
Most of these kids belonged to one family that came from Kentucky (the three on the left and the boy on the bike). All of the family survived Uptown and moved on to productive careers in other states, according to their sister (not shown) who contacted me through this web site.
