After photographing this lady’s teenage son (not shown here), she asked me to photograph her with her other, much younger son. She swept him into her arms, twirled him around and struck this pose. I could feel love flowing from her to him. Sadly, I didn’t feel it flowing the other way. Was he just afraid of me or had he already begun emotionally detaching from her? Many people in Uptown were emotionally detached from others. It was a survival mechanism.
