I found this man strolling back and forth on Wilson near Hazel in 1975. He stuck out because of his suit and his smile. I’ve often wondered about him. He never said much; he just kept on smiling – as if he had a secret. I never enlarged this image back then. But recently, when scanning negatives for this site, I noticed that he had a gaping hole in his right shoe. Enlargement will show his white socks sticking out. People from other neighborhoods would frequently drop old clothes off at Uptown’s resale shops. Perhaps this man got a deal on the suit and shoes. That might explain his smile.
