In February of 1976, the Organization of the Northeast (ONE) organized a massive demonstration outside of the new Harry Truman College at Racine and Wilson. This image shows a flatbed trailer used for speakers in the protest in front of an apartment building with broken and boarded up windows. The protest was urging the city to take action against “slumlords.” There was such a backlog of cases in housing court, that it might take years before a case was heard. This, the protesters alleged, allowed the slumlords to avoid making repairs as they continued to milk tenants.
