I encountered this kind and gentle soul numerous times while photographing in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood during the mid-1970s. He had a condition called hydrocephalus in which fluid builds up in the brain and enlarges the skull. It can sometimes cause brain damage. He rarely talked and when he did, it was very softly. Mostly, he let his friends talk for him as they walked through the neighborhood together.
