These two were part of the Hungarian family shown elsewhere in this portfolio. They had martial arts skills which were as impressive as they were diverse. In most of the other images I shot, they were practicing karate. Here they demonstrate a judo flip. In judo, you use the opponent’s momentum against him. For instance, when someone pushes you, you grab their shoulders, plant a foot in their stomach, roll backwards and flip them over your head. The landing must have been hard for the younger brother. The ground was still frozen. The popularity of judo and other martial arts has to do with more than self-defense. It’s part of every boys need to master his environment which can be quite intimidating when you’re small. Notice the platform heels on the boy doing the judo flip.
