Most pelicans plunge for fish. I caught this juvenile brown pelican munching on salad in a salt marsh at the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge east of Galveston Bay. The photo was taken with a NikonD4S, 800mm Nikkor and 1.2x teleconverter, handheld from my vehicle by resting the lens on a beanbag draped over the window. Note the veins in its pouch.
