These two young siblings were playing in the alley behind their family’s restaurant. Their grandmother owned the Guatemala Cafe at 1027 West Wilson. She ran the restaurant with the help of her daughter and son-in-law. Their kids always could be found in or around the restaurant. It was a real family operation. If the business survived as they grew older, I’m sure that they would have gone to work in it also.

The girl has a basket that she used to carry a toy makeup kit. It also looks as though she had her first purse on the ground next to her. Her brother was busy playing with his own toys.
