These three Latin Kings hung out near the corner of Winthrop and Ainslie in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood during the mid-1970s. They bought beer and snacks from the bodega behind them. While the Latin Kings never threatened me, I must admit that when I look at this photo, I sometimes feel a chill. Perhaps it’s because I caught them “flexing their muscle” so to speak. Unlike most of the shots I took of them, they did not pose for this shot. When I snapped the shutter, the camera was still hanging from my neck at chest level.
