This photo of a landing egret was taken moments before it returned to its nest with a stick for his mate. Upon landing, egrets raise their wings over their heads to slow the movement of their upper bodies. They then swing their legs forward and stretch their toes out to catch a waiting limb, almost like they are sliding into home.
