This was a group of Latin Kings on Winthrop, just north of Ainslie. The photo was taken in late 1976. There was tension in the air this day. The man in the foreground giving me “the look” was someone I had not seen before and he was very suspicious of me. I stayed there and talked with the group for about a half hour. During that time it grew to be two or three times this size. Clearly, I had stumbled into the middle of some kind of prearranged meeting. They were all nervous and evasive. While they would not tell me what they were up to, there was a lot of trash talk about the Latin Eagles. I suspected they were planning a confrontation.
