Often when male great egrets return to their nests, you will see this kind of display. They extend their necks and make their neck feathers bristle. I’m not sure what this means. It doesn’t seem to be a mating, courtship, or threat display. This may be how egrets say, “Oh Lucy! I’m home!” If you know what it means, please email me.
