This barefoot mother and her son were proud to pose for a picture despite the large bandage over the right side of his head and the fact that he is missing many teeth. Prophetically, the boys t-shirt features a Peanuts cartoon that says, “I can’t even win enough games to have a slump.”
I do not know how the boy received his injury. I believe they came to Uptown from Appalachia; many people did during the 1970s. The number of men in the background leads me to believe that they lived in a boarding house.
