This shot of mother and daughter is another from the Guatemala Cafe on Wilson Avenue in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood. It was taken in 1975. The woman is the daughter of the owner. She worked in the front of this incredible little restaurant as well as in the kitchen. Her daughter learned the business from the ground up by helping her parents and grandmother, the restaurant’s owner. I was always impressed by the warmth and hospitality of these people as much as I was by the quality of their food. This was no factory restaurant. Everything was lovingly made by hand from fresh ingredients.
