I tried photographing this woman with her entire family which included several more kids and two dogs. I never could get them all looking into the camera at once, so I decided to try to break them up into smaller groups … without the dogs. There’s a saying among directors in Hollywood. “Never work with children or animals.” This experience taught me the wisdom of that expression. This was the best shot of the mother and daughters. You can read the exasperation on the mother’s face. When kids don’t want to be photographed, don’t even try.
