This building began life in 1900 as a Congregational Church. Today it is a Baptist Church. Regardless of the denomination, I think the name has remained North Shore Church. When I was photographing in Uptown during the mid-1970s, you could always count on North Shore Church to display clever sayings on their sign. The sayings changed every week to keep people’s interest up. If you look closely, you can see at least one bar across Wilson through the trees. Back in the 1970s, it seemed as though there were bars and liquor stores on every commercial block in Uptown.
