I took this photo in 1975 on opening day for the Cubs near Wrigley field. The notes on my contact sheet say North Shore Railroad tracks. Note the street sign in the corner of the photo that says W. Byron. The street running parallel to the tracks would be Seminary. The company that built these was founded in 1891. The line was abandoned in 1963. A reader wrote in to say that the tracks survived into the early 1990s. He also said portions of the bridge over Montrose still survive to this day. The area where the tracks ran has since been replaced by a linear park. See the same scene in Google Maps Street View today by clicking on the link above. Note how the electrical pole next to the buildings behind the two white vans on the right is still leaning to the left at a ten degree angle.
