This painter had just finished a hard day’s work and was covered in paint splatters. I found him outside Kenmore Liquors at 1040 West Wilson, near the corner of Kenmore and Wilson in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood in 1975. There was also a bar attached to the liquor store called the Tap Room. Today, this corner is a parking lot.  Note the five digit phone number with the two letter prefix. In the era before cell phones and speed dials, the two letter prefix used to stand for something that was easy to remember, like Argyle. Then people only had to remember five numbers.
