Life in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood during the mid-1970s was filled with little ironies. I found this disheveled man sitting on a curb directly under a sign that said “No Parking, Street Cleaning.” He was lighting up what appeared to be the world’s longest cigarette. If you enlarge the image, you’ll see that he isn’t wearing socks. This was a style favored by many cost-conscious Uptown residents during that era.
