I found this red-tailed hawk sitting on a wooden fence post perusing the field in front of it, much like you or I might look over the menu in a restaurant. After a period of time, he blinked (see next post about nictitating membranes), then exploded into flight. He was too far away to get a good photograph of the kill. Photo taken with the Nikon D4 and 200-400mm zoom Nikkor with the 1.4x teleconverter, in Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge, about 20 miles east of Houston, Texas.
