In this shot from the upper deck of Wrigley Field, you can see the ribbon of steel called the ‘L’ slicing through Chicago toward Uptown. Even back in the mid-1970s when I took this shot, the ‘L’ was one of Chicago’s greatest assets and part of one of the world’s greatest public transportation systems. I’m just glad that my bedroom wasn’t right next to the tracks. More than 30 years after moving to Texas, I can still hear those screeching wheels in my sleep.
