This group of kids turned a corner onto Lawrence a block in front of me. About half of them had on new roller skates. They were exited beyond belief, feeding off of each other’s energy and came at me like Roller Derby stars. Roller Derby was a popular show on television at the time. Some of the kids literally leaped into the air as they rolled and ran. They were racing each other until they got to me when they stopped long enough for a group portrait. When I scanned this shot, it made me nostalgic for the days when kids actually used to play directly with each other instead of over the Internet. I think personal feedback is important in the growth of kids. Sadly, despite the many positive benefits of the Internet, it doesn’t provide the rich kind of personal experience that playing together does.
