I took this shot of a roseate spoonbill landing on a branch with the new Nikkor 800mm f5.6 at the Audubon Society’s Smith Oaks Sanctuary in High Island, Texas. The skies were dark gray and a fog was rolling in while I was shooting. The absence of harsh shadows revealed the intense, vivid colors of the roseate in its breeding plumage.
