The line waiting to get into the Salvation Army for dinner on Christmas Eve in 1974 was out the door and down the block. The Salvation Army operated a soup kitchen in the mid-1970s near Wilson and Kenmore. This shot shows the address on Wilson.z; 1028. Today, 1028 Wilson is a parking lot. It was freezing out on this day. Notice how one person couldn’t afford socks. The Salvation Army did wonderful work in Uptown. Were it not for them, many would have starved during the recession that followed the OPEC Oil Embargo.
