In March of 1976, Neil Hartigan held a Democratic political rally at the St. Andrews Greek Orthodox Church at Hollywood and Sheridan in Edgewater. The Shannon Rovers kicked off the festivities with drums and bagpipes. It wouldn’t have been a Chicago political rally without the Shannon Rovers. At the rally, however, Hartigan gave equal time to a banjo player, perhaps a nod to the growing Appalachian population of the Uptown/Edgewater area at the time.
