The living conditions in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood in the mid-1970s tested people. Those who have been through life’s battles together form strong bonds. Through this blog, many people have written me to say they’ve remained lifelong friends with people they met in Uptown. Such letters remind me of the two people in this image. The woman was having a hard day. Her friend was consoling her. It helps to have a shoulder to lean on from time to time.
