This photo shows the sibling rivalry between two hungry egret chicks. The egret with its wings raised just received a tasty dinner from its parent. The one with the malevolent look in its eyes got nothing. Competition for food in the nest among growing birds is fierce. Within two weeks, these chicks have grown to about six inches. Within another month, if they survive, they will grow about another two feet. The parents will take turns fishing to fill those hungry stomachs. And the chicks will fight each other for food each time a parent returns to the nest.
